men will tell no tales when dead
some things are better left unsaid
but some speak now or ever hold
your peace inside the graveyard fold
you'd think again if face-to-face
your rotting corpse did plead your case
if dead you spoke, what would you say,
verbalized from your decay,
with a lidless bulging eye
"speak your piece before you die
say your prayers and do the deed
the one that plants eternal seed
the one that brings God's will on earth
the one that leads to second birth
that brings the lost into the light
that dares to stand and join the fight
hoping in good times or nought
forged in fire where there is wrought
heaven's valiant citizen
God's will be done on earth again"
what would you speak amidst the tedium
without some hokey seance medium?
what would be your desperate word
to people that could say they heard
what your thoughts were after death
should you even waste your breath?
they wouldn't change even if they saw
they have the prophets and the law
they'd just continue, like Jesus said
even if one returned from dead
and warned those still upon the earth
they're lost in sin - for what it's worth
and nothing shall deter their course
aside from God inspired remorse
if dead you spoke what would you say?
it all depends on life today.
