2003-12-31 - who knows? Who knows the things that love might do In hearts of people breaking through When desperation turns to prayer for a world which turns and no one's there To feed the underprivileged masses Teach them in their makeshift classes Sometimes we have to say goodbye To things we love, to things we've tried To satisfy and only found The hollow and the empty sound What is the reason we exist? Prioritize our To-Do List? To love our friends and family? Even heathen dutifully Carry out the least of these What cures the self-centered disease? What actions will curtail the tide To free us from this selfish pride Arising from our desperate need To break away and intercede? What does it take for Scrooge to see His inert wake and loveless spree? How can he break and truly know His life is more or less a show? A lesson learned, a suffered loss, A fire burned, a coin that's tossed A vapor that appears and goes To dissipation, where? who knows? A life that counts while it is here In this surrounding biosphere Must surely be the one that lives To love beyond what comfort gives To pilgrim's progress, as it goes To brave the thorn upon the rose To somehow find that place of peace That sense of purpose, sweet release, And find a love that truly grows This might be God, let's pray, who knows? |
