in the quiet stillness
finally f'realness
Mary sat and listened
awed by this commission
never had she heard such words before
each question was addressed and what is more
the ones she hadn't thought of
the unknown lands unchartered
the mystery of life was there made known
the lid off her confusion had been blown
and all that she had wondered
the burden she was under
was lifted and she felt alive and free
and then very much like you and me
distraction comes and interrupts the flow
it might be something close someone you know
in this case it was Martha
who burst in just to start the
tyranny of the urgent task at hand
the all important work service demands
"Jesus don't you care
if dinner gets prepared?!
And here I have to work all by myself?
I don't mean to despair
but c'mon let's be fair
a book cannot be read upon the shelf!"
as if she had been dreaming
beside this river streaming
Mary had to wake up to the noise and analyze just how she lost her poise
her sister had a way to snap her back
whenever she would wander off the track
what's wrong with me she thought
and feeling quite distraught
she pulled herself to stand upon her feet
but suddenly there came a sound so sweet
pump the backtrack
