hear the energetic idle
the inner engines under bridal,
harnessed by some hidden lover,
which until now was undiscovered
how could it escape you so?
did you run headlong to and fro
as this wonder went unknown?
that's not all that isn't shown.
ever notice this before:
a spectre lurking at your door?
Like an uninvited guest
Scaring those you like the best
some disease which renders weak
And leaves you with no words to speak
it takes that steady rise and fall,
sucks the juice right from the stall,
turns the darling to a nest
of wasps inside your equine fest
a gyroscopic balance act
to overcome and now you're back
but death defies the bouncer's threats
like coughing from those cigarettes
and tries to rape your lover's life
with plunging punctures by the knife
contraption of his sordid realm
like cankers eating up the elm
but you don't let go quietly
not by your rebel relevancy
no gentle going down to die
you spit into the spectre's eye
as basil leaves fall in the fire
renouncing your former desire
you vow to heaven with each breath
that you will take on any death
and then another thing unseen
appears in sharp and brilliant sheen
a sword of light is in your grasp
and vanquishes the serpent's asp.
